A 20-Bore Silver-Mounted Flintlock Holster Pistol By Rob.t Looker Of London, Circa 1720 With three-stage barrel, octagonal breech becoming polygonal and ramped at the rear, plain tang, signed border engraved rounded lock (cock repaired), moulded figured full stock (minor damage below the lock) with pointed apron (chipped) around the barrel tang, cast and chased mounts comprising pierced foliate scroll side-plate, vacant foliate escutcheon, spurred pommel with stepped cap, moulded trigger-guard with trefoil finial, baluster ramrod-pipes, and horn-tipped ramrod with iron worm (some wear and minor rust patination), London proof marks and maker's mark 25.2 cm. barrel Footnotes: Provenance Sold in these Rooms, Antique Arms, Armour & Modern Sporting Guns, 11 May 2016, lot 386 The Penrose Collection Robert Looker was apprenticed to Henry Crips in 1678 and free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1685.
